I will conquer yoga- 1/21/2013

So, today I wrote two yoga routines that concentrate on my "problem" areas, an AM routine that is mainly floor work, since getting motivated in the morning is so hard and floor work is easier than standing work, and an upright routine for my after work/run workout. Well tonight I must have been off since running was extremly painful so I gave up about a half mile in and walked the rest and then I wasn't able to finish my yoga routine. I had to stop about 6 moves in due to nausea :(. If anyone else delt with nausea during a yoga session please let me know what you did to overcome it. It seems everytime I try a new move I get nauseated. I am not sure if it is because my body is not used to the movement or what it could be, but it is becoming very tiresome. Anyways, I will let you know how my new AM routine goes tomorrow.I will also be trying out a new recipe for black bean burger lettuce wraps tomorrow night so look for the recipie tomorrow.

Slaters 50/50- 1/19/2013

Tonight we celebrated my friends birthday at Slaters 50/50 which is a vegan nightmare. Luckily they added a vegan burger option and a lettuce wrap option. I was very leary of how a place that is famous for a 50/50 bacon/hambuger burger would do in making a vegan patty. I was pleasently suprised. The patty was delicious and I could see pieces of veggies in the patty. Which was awesome so I could tell what I was actually eating. However if you order french fries beware, they are served with bacon ketchup. I almost made the mistake of eating, luckily I know their reputation of putting bacon in everything so I asked before I dove in. Unfortunatly none of their desserts are vegan so my awesome waitress brought me just a spoon of nutella. In all it was an awesome night. Good food, and good friends = a great night

Alphabet yoga- 1/19/2013 morning

After my really hard new yoga routine last night I thought I wouldn't be able to do anything this morning, but as my alarm went off this morning I decided to gather all my strength and try the Alphabet Yoga I read about earlier this week. It seemed like a simple fast workout just to get my body moving. Boy was I wrong. To complete Alphabet Yoga you lay on you back and lift your legs straight in the air at 90 degrees. Keeping your legs straight and together you "write" the alphabet in the air with your legs. I got through "M" when I had to take a short break and by the time I got to "Z" I was really feeling the "burn". At the end I decided this was a good morning workout before the dreaded Saturday work day.
----> I will have more to report tonight after my night out at Slaters 50/50. Which is a vegan nightmare. Luckily they have updated their menu to include a vegan burger and a lettuce wrap.

1/17/2013- Pizza

Tonight I attempted to make vegan pizza.  I used a vegan garlic and herb pizza dough that was very tasty topped with an organic pizza sauce from Fresh and Easy.  The toppings I chose were Roma Tomatoes, Marinated Artichoke Hearts and Basil.  For the cheese I used Daiya Mozzarella Shreds.  The pizza looked amazing when I took it out of the oven.  Since it was a flat bread pizza I cut it into strips instead of the traditional pizza wedges.  The outer edges that did not have a much cheese as the center were very good, unfortunatly the middle pieces that contained the majority of the cheese were not exactly what I expected.  The way the cheese melted was not very pleasing to me so I decided not to eat the inner portion of the pizza.  As I have stated before, I do not think I am cut out for the vegan life style.  There are a few things I can not find suitable replacements for, cheese is definatly a big one.  Over all it was a good effort but one I do not think I will try again.

1/16/2013-Yoga

Yoga pose of the week is "Goddess Pose". I am working on mastering this pose so I can successfully move into "Standing Straddle Pose" which looks amazing but is only accomplished by coming out of "Goddess Pose". From what I can tell after tonights attempt at "Goddess" is that it is a great work out for your legs, mine are now aching but its a good ache. I held the pose for 5 deep breaths and repeated 5 times. I felt stabbler and was able to go deeper with each set. I feel I will have this pose mastered by the weekend and can move on to "Standing Straddle Pose" early next week.

1/15/2013- Half way through my vegan challenge

Today officially marks my half way point to my 30 day vegan challenge and I must admit it has been fun and challenging. I am learning a lot about nutrition and how the human body works and what it needs to survive. I may not be cut out for a vegan lifestyle but I am definatly giving it a good run.
Todays workout: Started my day at 5:30 with a 30 minute bike ride on my stationary bike, it is still a little too cold and dark in the morning for any outdoor activities. I followed up my bike ride with a short routine on my excersise ball. After that time to hit the showers and get ready for work. After work I decided to brave the unseasonably cold socal weather and go for a run. I never thought layering running clothes would ever come in handy here in sunny socal, but none the less I layered up and headed out the door. I managed to get in about a mile before I thought my lungs were going to freeze. So, I headed home and hit the weight bench. I'm still at a pretty low weight but its getting easier to finish my reps. I finished up my day with an amazing yoga session.
Green Smoothie: I am also on week two of my green smoothie challenge. Todays smoothie was a peach, mango, pineapple, pomegranate green smoothie. The green part comes from spinach, kale, cucumber and green apple juice. I love the amount of nutrition I am able to pack into one meal with these type of smoothies, and theu taste amazing
Talk to ya'll tomorrow.

Introductions

Hi, my name is Lisa. I have recently decided to start living a plant based life. I have officially been vegetarian for 4 months and found it very tricky at first. Through numerous blogs I have found the resources I needed to be sucessful. My goal is to chronical my daily life choices and hopefully inspire a few along the way.  Along with changing to a plant based diet I have also started training to run a 5k in a few months. I will take you with me on my daily traing routine and also share any good training tips I learn along the way.  I hope you enjoy reading my blog and find it helpful on your journey to a plant based life.
